Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) would declare its election results today i.e. November 1, 2010 at around 2 pm at the Dombivli sports complex. Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray are all geared for the resuts have done all they could to beat each other. Verbal Combat between the two parties was common during the campaigning.

Andhra State was a state in India created on October 1, 1953 from the Telugu-speaking northern districts of Madras Presidency. On November 1, 1956 it was merged with the Telangana region of Hyderabad State to form the united Telugu-speaking state of Andhra Pradesh.

In 1953, Telugu speakers of Madras Presidency wanted Madras as the capital of Andhra state including the famous slogan Madras Manade (Madras is ours) before Tirupati was included in AP. Madras, at that time was an indivisible mixture of Tamil and Telugu cultures. It was difficult to determine who should possess it. Panagal Raja, Chief Minister of the Madras Presidency in the early 1920s said that the Cooum River should be kept as a boundary, giving the northern portion to the Andhras and the southern portion to the Tamils. In 1928, Sir C. Sankaran Nair sent a report to the Central Council discussing why Madras does not belong to the Tamils. Although historically and geographically it is a part of the Andhra region[citation needed], the greater political dominance of the Tamils in 1953 at both Central and State level politics caused Madras to remain in the Tamil region. According to the JPC report (Jawahar Lal Nehru, Bhogaraju Pattabhi Sitaramayya, C. Rajagopalachari) Telugu people should leave Madras for Tamils if they want a new state.

In an effort to protect the interests of the Telugu people of Madras state, Amarajeevi Potti Sriramulu attempted to force the Madras state government to listen to public demands for the separation of Telugu speaking districts(Rayalaseema and Coastal Andhra) from Madras state to form the Andhra state. He went on a lengthy fast, and only stopped when Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru promised to form Andhra state. However, there was no movement on the issue for a long time. He started fasting again for attaining statehood for Andhra in Maharshi Bulusu Sambamurti’s house in Madras on 19 October 1952. It started off without fanfare but steadily caught people’s attention despite the disavowal of the fast by the Andhra Congress committee.

The government of the day however did not make a clear statement about the formation of a new state despite several strikes and demonstrations by Telugu people. On the midnight of 15 December (i.e. early 16 December 1952), Potti Sreeramulu died and laid down his life trying to achieve his objective.

In his death procession, people shouted slogans praising his sacrifice. When the procession reached Mount Road, thousands of people joined and raised slogans hailing Sriramulu. Later, they went into a frenzy and resorted to destruction of public property. The news spread like wildfire and created an uproar among the people in far off places like Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Rajahmundry, Eluru, Guntur, Tenali, Ongole and Nellore. Seven people were killed in police firing in Anakapalle and Vijayawada. The popular agitation continued for three to four days disrupting normal life in Madras and Andhra regions. On 19 December 1952, the Prime Minister of the country Jawaharlal Nehru made an announcement about formation of a separate state for Telugu speaking people of Madras state.

House no. 126, Royapettah high road, Mylapore, Madras is the address of the house where Potti Sriramulu died and it has been preserved as a monument of importance by the state government of Andhra Pradesh.

On the basis of an agitation, on October 1, 1953, 11 districts in the Telugu-speaking portion of Madras State voted to become the new state of Andhra State with Kurnool as the capital. Andhra Kesari Tanguturi Prakasam Pantulu became first Chief Minister of thus formed Telugu State. Thus, Andhra State was a state created in India on October 1, 1953 from the Telugu-speaking northern districts of Madras Presidency. It comprised Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema Regions.

The formation of linguistic states is the single most important event in the history of South Indian languages, as it provided an opportunity for these languages to develop independently, each of them having a state to support.

Maharashtra Election Commission has ruled out introduction of e-voting in the forthcoming election to Kalyan and Kolhapur municipal bodies. State Election Commissioner Neela satyanarayan has said that the commission wanted to try out the e-voting for Kalyan and Kolhapur civic elections but has dropped the idea as it would take some more time to put up the system in place for e voting. She said a blue print for the e-voting project was being prepared and the commission would discuss it with political parties. She also pointed out that the experiment of e-voting had failed in the recently held civic elections in Gujarat with only 183 voters registering for e-voting and only 124 of them actually voted.

A travel through Bihar has always been something of a pilgrimage for me. It cleanses my mind and soul of the complacency and cynicism that we all pick up in Delhi. And of course, there is the charm of dahi-choora and litti-chokha.

Pilgrimage apart, this time i had three questions as i travelled for six days through north and northeastern Bihar. Has something really changed in Bihar, outside Patna and other urban centres? If yes, do ordinary people, especially from the lower orders, register this change? And, if yes again, will this positive sentiment translate into votes for the JD(U)- BJP alliance in this election?

Years of Bihar-watching have taught me not to go by received images and wisdom. Statistics are dodgy; the national media is either gullible or hostile and the local media suffers from an uppercaste mindset. I was told that the Nitish Kumar government has used not-so-subtle tactics to ensure good press for itself. There was no substitute to checking things for oneself.

At least a part of the answer was clear by the end of the second day on the road, as the vehicle and its occupants survived the many forays beyond the highways. The little journey through Nepal served as a contrast and a reminder of what roads used to be. An earlier expedition from Muzaffarpur to Sitamarhi, a 57-km stretch, took seven hours. The roads in Bihar now may not compare with the best in the country, but they are way better than what they used to be five years ago. Does the quality of road make a difference to those who do not own motorable vehicles? I asked this question and was promptly silenced by some passengers waiting for a bus to Darbhanga. It used to take them a full day to transport a critically ill patient to the medical college there.

Now it takes three hours. The improvement in law and order is no less dramatic. Gone are the days of brazen rangadaari, of extortion, loot and kidnappings with open political patronage. These practices have not completely disappeared. Before the elections, Nitish bought peace with some of the political dons. Yet the contrast with the past is there for everyone to notice. And it matters even to the landless labourer who can now ply his rickshaw without the fear of being dragged for begaar (unpaid labour).

We chose the Musahar tola of Kanauli village, a stone's throw from the Nepal border, to check if 'development' had reached the last person. Most of the students in the two-room school get books, uniform and a mid-day meal, but perhaps not much education. Elsewhere, people had reported that government doctors have started attending the rural health centres, but there was no hospital around this locality. Yes, every family had a job card under MNREGA, but could not recall the last time anyone got work under that scheme. Migration to Delhi and Punjab remains the main source of livelihood. There is still no electricity here. Let Nitish come back to power, they said, and this time we will wrangle real electricity, not just the elusive solar lamp.

This is when it struck me— this election is not about vikas (development) or even about bipaas (bijali, paani, sadak). This is really about aas (hope). Bihar is still a long way from development that could change the life conditions of every person. We are not talking good governance, just governance. The five years of Nitish Kumar government — his government, neither NDA's, nor JD(U)'s --has delivered hope in Bihar, perhaps after three decades. This hope is shared across the caste and class divide.

Finally, the tough question: will this hope translate into votes? Or will caste trump development, as the media puts it? I have always been uneasy with this formulation. For one thing, Nitish Kumar has his own caste equations. He does face a little disenchantment of the upper castes, especially Rajputs, and the reconsolidation of the Yadavs behind the RJD, which he can more than make up for by the likely gains among the lowest OBCs (the EBC), dalits except Paswans (mahadalits) and Muslims. In any case, it is not caste versus development in this election.

Most voters, in Bihar or anywhere for that matter, view governance or development from their own social location. Caste appears to be the only factor when there is not much to choose from in terms of development or governance. Actually, caste provides a lens through which they view and assess the work of any government —it is not a blinder. If a government is seen to have done work, then a small slice from each of the caste-blocs shifts sides. This is enough to change electoral outcomes. It is not as if Bihar has taken off the lens of caste. It is just that the power of this lens has changed, allowing for a better visibility of development. That is a powerful change.

Anara Gupta (born August 1986) is an Indian model and actress who won the “Miss Jammu” beauty pageant in 2001. She has been at the center of an ongoing and widely publicized pornography and police scandal in Jammu and Kashmir since 2004.

It alleges that a police officer produced the porn movie with a hidden camera in order to make sexual advances at Gupta while she was imprisoned.

The High Court of Jammu and Kashmir closed the case in December 2005, without charging Gupta. Social activist Amit Chouhan pressed for a reopening of the case, concerned that evidence about a pornography ring involving young girls and high ranking politicians was being suppressed. In August 2006 a fresh investigation into the case was begun, on order of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir.

siliguri polytechnic mms girl commits suicide on Wednesday Oct 27 solapur

The first-year student of Siliguri Polytechnic was shocked to learn that her boyfriend had secretly filmed them together in bed and circulated the explicit MMS to all and sundry and had even uploaded it on YouTube. Neha filed an FIR, but the police sat on it for five weeks. Pushed to the wall and unable to bear the social ignominy, Neha committed suicide on Wednesday.

The police finally acted on Neha's FIR on Thursday and got the film off the web, but the MMS clip continues to circulate. Police are now looking for the victim's boyfriend, a second-year student of the same college, who has been absconding since the FIR was filed.

Neha's parents and neighbours in Patti Colony locality say her death could have been averted had the police acted on the FIR filed five weeks ago. "I would not have had to see this day if they had taken action on my daughter's FIR," said Neha's father Raju Saha, a trader in Siliguri's SJDA Market.

Neha took admission to the college this year. Soon, she was having an affair with second-year student Anindya Garai of Sonamukhi, Bankura. The two got into a physical relationship and, sometime in end-August, Anindya secretly filmed himself and Neha in bed. He then sent the film as an MMS clip to almost every student.

A week later, Neha began wondering why everyone in the institute was taunting her. Obscene comments were made outside the college campus. Neha found people staring at her, whispering and nudging each other on roads, buses and autos. Soon, she started getting propositioned by strangers.

A 18-year-old girl committed suicide on Wednesday, Oct 27 after yielding to severe depression over the circulation of an MMS showing her in a compromising position.

Police has identified the girl as a diploma student of Siliguri Government Polythechnic College.

The obscene clips were allegedly captured and circulated by a student of the college, identified as Anindya Garai.

The girl is learnt to have met Anindya at hostel mess where she was filmed on a mobile phone. She later became aware of the MMS and lodged a police complaint in Sep 2010.

However, she buckled under the pressure and took the extreme step as the accused was reportedly blackmailing her as well.

The State Council of Educational Research & Training (SCERT) Gurgaon has been released its SCERT Gurgaon DEd Counseling Schedule or SCERT Gurgaon DEd 2nd Counseling Schedule dates for admission into Diploma in Education (D Ed) programme, to be offered in the ensuing session 2010- 2012. You can check SCERT Gurgaon DEd Counseling Schedule or SCERT Gurgaon DEd 2nd Counseling Schedule dates on the official website at scertharyana.in.

The first phase of counseling was conducted during September 4, 2010 to September 21, 2010. The second counseling will be conducted in two sessions. A decision has been taken by the District Administration to celebrate Kannada Rajyotsava on Nov. 1 on a grand scale. Officials of different departments and representatives of Pro-Kannada organisations met in a preliminary meeting in the Deputy Commissioner's office here on Wednesday and offered suggestions on celebrating the event on a grand scale.

There being many active non-Kannada organisations in the city, an opportunity should be given to them also to take part in the celebrations and add to the grandeur; all government offices should be illuminated on that day as well as flying Kannada flag on top of the buildings, were among the suggestions.

Exhibitors of films in the city were requested to screen Kannada movies in all the theatres during the month of Rajyotsava. Many participants in the meeting suggested felicitating of achievers in different fields of the city in addition to organising cultural programmes.

The District In-Charge Minister will offer worship at 8.30 am on Nov.1 at Sri Bhuvaneshwari Temple in Mysore Palace premises and later unfurl the Kannada flag as well as the national flag at the Town Hall at 9 am. The Minister will also address the gathering.

SSAA MIS CO-ORDINATOR ONLINE REGISTRATION IN PROGRESS

IMPORTANT INSTRUCTION/ INFORMATION FOR APPLYING ONLINE
1. Only online registered application forms will be entertained i.e. applications sent by post / in person will not be entertained.

2. Before filling up the online application form the candidate should get the Bank Demand Draft in favour of State Project Director, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Punjab, payable at Chandigarh of appropriate application fee amount as per his/her category as mentioned in the Advertisement published in news papers.

3. Fill up the online application form and carefully check all details filled thoroughly before submitting. The office will not be responsible for any incorrect /wrong entries filled by the candidate and he/she will be responsible for any consequences on this account.

4. Every successful registration will be allotted the Registration number printed on the Admit Card/ Registration slip containing the details filled by the candidate.

5. On successful submission of online application form, candidates is required to take out the print (2 copies), which will have registration number allotted online as well as other details filled by the candidate.

6. Affix a passport size photograph at the space provided and get it attested from a gazetted officer.

7. Last date for applying online 03-NOV-2010 by 5:00PM.

8. One copy is to be retained by the candidate and the second copy along with the original demend draft of appropriate application fee amount must be sent through Registered/speed post/in person to C-DAC Mohali, A-34, Phase VIII, Industrial Area, Mohali, Punjab, which should reach on or before 08-Nov-2010 by 5:00 pm.

NOTE: Examination Centre will be alloted to the candidates whose application fee is confirmed.
Admit card will be made available for download from 15-Nov-2010 onwards. Candidates can download the admit card for exam scheduled on 21-Nov-2010 by entering their Registration Number and Password

In View of any mistakes commited by the candidate while online filling of the form can edit their information by entering their Registration number & Password (secret) printed on the admit card/ registration slip in the respective required fields during the online filling process.
 

Result for Clerks, Stenographers and Steno typist posts will be available by tomorrow after noon

Subordinate Service Selection Board (SSSB) Results 2010 for Clerks, Stenographers and Steno typist posts will be declared tomorrow on 30th Oct 2010.

SSSB Results will be published at the official website of Centre for Development of Advanced Computing, Mohali (CDAC Mohali) by tomorrow after noon as per info available.

They had a meeting spanning thirty minutes and Yeddyurappa confirmed to attend the wedding.

Many celebrities from political gallery and film industries are expected to attend the Vivek Oberoi Marriage ceremony. Director Apoorva Lakhia in the town and set the stage on fire during Mehendi Ceremony on Thursday. Designer Tarun Tahilani has prepared the wedding dresses of bride and groom. Marriage ceremony will be followed by a grand reception in Mumbai on 31st October.

The baaraat will arrive at 5.30 pm and around 7 pm will be the Jayamala ceremony. There will be a flute performance by Pravin Godkindi and veena performance by Kannan. Around 11 pm, the pheras are scheduled to begin. The wedding will be conducted both in Bunt and Punjabi traditions.

The upcoming model and TV serial actress Rinky Chowdhary committed suicide yesterday in her apartment in Ballabh Society in Oshiwara area in Goregaon, Mumbai.

"The body of Rinki Chaudhry, a model and TV anchor, was found hanging from the ceiling fan in the kitchen late Thursday," a police official said."

Police took her body to Cooper Hospital on Friday morning. They are investigating the cause of the suicide. No suicide note has been found.
