Japanese-based DREAM held DREAM 16 on Saturday featuring many Japanese MMA stars, including Shinya Aoki, Kazushi Sakuraba, Gegard Mousasi, and Jason Miller. There were some great fights, and some surprising results. There were also quite a few fights that lacked action, and could have put even the most hardcore MMA fans asleep.

In the main event, Gegard Mousasi won the first ever light heavyweight championship after defeating Tatsuya Mizuno. It was a great fight to watch, and Mousasi showed the world why he is the Champion.

* Jason “Mayhem” Miller defeated Kazushi Sakuraba by submission (arm**triangle choke) in Round 1, 2:09
* Shinya Aoki defeated Marcus Aurelio by unanimous decision
* Michihiro Omigawa defeated Cole Escovedo by submission (reverse armbar) in Round 1, 2:30
* Joachim Hansen defeated Hideo Tokoro by submission (triangle choke) in Round 1, 2:48
* Kazuyuki Miyata defeated Takeshi Inoue by unanimous decision
* Satoshi Ishii defeated Ikuhisa Minowa by unanimous decision
* Hiroyuki Takaya defeated Chase Beebe by KO (punches) R1, 1:45

For those that don’t know, DREAM.16 is a mixed martial arts event held by Fighting and Entertainment Group’s mixed martial arts promotion DREAM. The latest event took place in in Nagoya, Japan. It was aired live in the United States on HDNet. It was noted that the event took place on the same day as UFC 116, which upset a few MMA fight fans.
